Dozens of people supported the Grand Strand Humane Society Friday afternoon at its annual “Lunch of Love” event.

The fundraiser was held at Mellow Mushroom from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tickets for several lunch specials were sold for $10 each.

The shelter hosts the fundraiser to help raise money needed to support its operations, in addition to the care of homeless and abandoned animals in the Myrtle Beach area. Half of the proceeds raised from the lunch will go towards the organization.

“The proceeds go to help us with various things we need around the shelter – like food for our animals or the ability to house them over long periods of time, medication [and] any treatments they would need,” said Grand Strand Humane Society event coordinator Ammie Levi.

Friday’s event also featured a raffle and several dogs looking for their forever families.

The Grand Strand Humane Society took in more than 2,300 stray and abandoned animals during 2017. According to the City of Myrtle Beach, more than 1,000 of those animals found new homes through local adoptions.

The Grand Strand Humane Society is considered a “no kill” shelter.
