Mondays in November and December, The Warehouse restaurant is holding a spaghetti plate fundraiser called Flood Relief Mondays.
The fundraiser runs from open to close, but there are giveaways and live music from 5:00-7:00 p.m.
$7 gets you a plate with spaghetti, salad and tea with all the money going to a family impacted by flooding.
Local corporate sponsors contribute $100 per week to the cause. There are also celebrity servers, like local politicians, and all of their tip money goes to the families.
“We’re a family at the Warehouse,” Daeka Barbini, shift manager, said. “So it’s really cool to see that we have come together and figured out something to do, something to give back.”
Plates can be ordered for sit-down or to-go. All the money from the dinners, tips and donations goes into the pockets of families who lost their home and had no insurance, like Kelly Barnes. She is the recipient of this Monday’s fundraiser.
Florence flooded the rental house she was in the process of buying for her and her two teenage daughters. “I’m still gonna purchase the home,” Barners said. “And so it’s gonna be up to me now to get it fixed back up.”
Barnes works at Horry Telephone Cooperative but also works part time at the Warehouse. She said she’s used to helping out during the spaghetti benefit, not being on the receiving end.
“They’re a great family, a great group of people,” Barnes said. “I’m very humbled that they chose me to help us out here.”
Last Monday, November 19, the Warehouse said they raised close to $3,500. Flood Relief Mondays will run through December 17.
