The Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help to come forward with any information that can help track down the individual who covered a dog in chemicals, causing severe burns.

On February 11, Sheriff’s deputies and Animal Control responded to County Line Road near Bullard Road in Hemingway, after a woman says she saw Chester wander through her yard.

Officers say he was covered in burns, severely thin, and shaking with pain.

Volunteers and workers at the Saint Franced Animal Center in Georgetown have worked around the clock to nurse him back to health.

Volunteer, Margie Harris says she has been giving him chicken and rice to try to allow him some pleasure during this time.

“Most of them are dogs that have been starved or chained up to a building, but this is intentional cruelty which is the worst I have ever seen, and hopefully the worst I will ever see.” said Harris.

After procedures, medication and some tende loving care he is slowly making a recovery. With the community also rooting for him on Facebook, more than $2,000 has been raised.

“We just had seven people call with interest in adopting Chester, so that’s pretty good.” said Hinson, the adoption counselor.

Anyone with information on what happened to Chester is asked to call the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office: 843-546-5102
