It’s been two years since Hurricane Matthew tore it’s way through the Grand Strand, destroying a large part of the Springmaid Pier.  A timeline for reconstruction has still not been announced by Doubletree owners.

On Wednesday, DHEC workers told News13 that they have not received a permit application for the reconstruction of the pier.

Maria Hayworth with Hayworth Public Relations says reconstruction for the pier is still on. The Doubletree General Manager, Mike Frits gave News13 this statement:

“Specific details and a detailed timeline are not yet available for the rebuild of the Springmaid Pier.  As soon as these are available, we will make a formal announcement.” said Frits.

One Virginia couple had their wedding next to the pier on Wednesday evening, and say they were hoping to see reconstruction start by now.

“Well we was really hoping for the pier to be completed but unfortunately it sn’t but we like this location of Myrtle Beach and you know fisherman like to come here to fish off the pier so it is very disappointing to them as well.” said Sheri Jacobs.
