NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – North Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue has released details surrounding Thursday’s fire at The Havens complex in Barefoot Resort.
Just before 2 p.m. on Thursday, crews were alerted for a reported building fire in The Havens off of Catalina Drive in Barefoot Resort. Initial reports were significant black smoke coming from the third floor. according to fire officials. The first crews arrived and proceeded to try and quickly knock down the fire on the third floor while also ensuring all occupants had safely made it from the building.
The fire had already worked into the common attic area and initial crews quickly recognized the fire was moving too rapidly to try and contain with their hand lines inside, report fire officials. Mutual aid was provided from several agencies as crews worked this incident scene for the remainder of afternoon and evening and worked great in rotating fresh crews out to work.
Truck 754 remained on scene throughout the night monitoring the incident scene.
An investigation into the cause of the October 18 fire at The Havens is underway. The North Myrtle Beach Fire Department leads the investigation with participation from the Horry County Fire Department, ATF, and the State Fire Marshal.
In addition to examining the physical aftermath of the fire, crews will review past permits to determine work that has been done on the building since its construction, and review any recent activity that may have occurred at the building. The Fire Department cautions that the process will take time and immediate results will not be available to the community.
