SURFSIDE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Town Council in Surfside Beach is looking to attract more businesses and tourists by upgrading the area’s design overlay district.
Several council members say the town has made slow progress when it comes to updating the overlay district. They also say surrounding Horry County businesses look better and are more successful.
On Tuesday night, the council received an ordinance proposal similar to that of design overlay district in Horry County.
It details regulations for building exteriors, entrances, roofs and color schemes. You can read the full document by clicking: here.
Declining business rates
The town also passed second and final reading of an ordinance to decrease business license rates for businesses earning $1 million or more in gross income.
The higher the business’ gross income, the less it would pay for the business license rates.
