WAMPEE, SC (WBTW) – One person is dead after a garbage truck and pickup collided on Highway 90 Friday morning.
The Horry County Coroner’s Office identified the person killed as 78-year-old Jerry P. Thompson of Longs.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol determined that Thompson was at fault for the crash.
The accident happened at about 7:45 a.m. near Star Bluff Road. The driver of the pickup truck died in the crash.
The garbage truck was traveling west on Hwy 90 when the pickup, pulling out from Star Bluff Road onto Hwy 90, failed to yield the right of way, according to Cpl. Sonny Collins with the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
The driver of the garbage truck was not injured, according to Collins.
