A man’s body was discovered inside a home after a house fire early Tuesday morning.

Assistant Chief Tony Hucks with Georgetown County Fire and EMS confirms firefighters were called to a home on Robin Drive and George Washington Trail around 7 a.m. Tuesday. When they arrived, the house was fully engulfed in flames.

Georgetown County officials say a man’s body was discovered inside a home after firefighters extinguished the flames. 

The Georgetown County Coroner’s Office identified the man who died as Eric P. Gertig, 60, of Georgetown. His cause of death was smoke inhalation and his death was ruled an accident.
