CONWAY, SC (WBTW) – Conway and a local restaurateur have plans to help create a new, walkable restaurant district on the historic Riverwalk.
The Lower River Warehouse on Conway’s Riverwalk that has sat empty for some time will be developed into a restaurant, and the city has agreed to help supply necessary items like trashcans to help create a restaurant district downtown. According to city spokesperson, Taylor Newell, the revitalization will bring more people to the area and draw crowds into downtown Conway.
Just around the corner on Laurel St. one of Conway’s first farm-to-table style restaurants has officially opened. Crooked Oak Tavern‘s owner, Chris Snyder, says he is excited about the new, potential foot traffic around his new restaurant.
“I thought the way Conway is so supportive of its local businesses, what a better place to be, where I’m supporting all of the local farms and everything, that I thought this would be a great fit for the community,” says Snyder.
Crooked Oak Tavern serves locally grown, organic and healthy food options in downtown Conway. According to Snyder, there is nothing else like it in the area.
“We’re not just doing the WK Price, we’re using local the farmers; we’re also using other local businesses in town,” says Snyder.
The restaurant began serving customers a few weeks ago, however, they had their official opening today. Snyder says he is excited to see the transformation of the Riverwalk as business at his new restaurant gets underway.
