The Horry County coroner’s office says a Conway teen was killed in a crash involving a tractor-trailer Tuesday night on Highway 701.
Corporal Sonny Collins with the South Carolina Highway Patrol said the crash happened just before 10 p.m. Tuesday. He said the driver of an SUV failed to yield the right-of-way and turned from Wise Rd. onto on Hwy. 701 in front of the 18-wheeler. A portion of the road was closed as crews worked to clear the scene and assist victims.
Collins said the driver of the SUV died. Horry County Deputy Coroner Tony Hendrick identifies the victim as Heather Olivia Todd, 18, of Conway. Horry County Fire Rescue crews say another person was initially trapped during the crash but crews were able to remove the victim from the wreckage.
The victim was critically injured in the crash, but there is no word on that person’s condition as of Wednesday morning.
South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Collins said the two people in the SUV were not wearing seat belts. He said no charges are expected in the case.
