CONWAY, SC (WBTW) – The Riverwalk is showing some signs of recovery after the flooding from Hurricane Florence.
The city has replaced the wooden boards on half of the walkway, which was under flood water from the Waccamaw River after Florence. City administrator Adam Emrick says the city is focusing on Riverfront Park, where electrical equipment has been replaced. The next step there is fixing the irrigation system and eventually replacing the playground.
Emrick says the challenging part is waiting for funds from insurance companies and FEMA.
“There are grant monies out there that we’re actively looking for to help assist us and be able to restore these areas,” said Emrick. “It’s not like we’re relying simply on FEMA and simply on our general fund budget or our insurance funds.”
Emrick says the city is also planning the rebuild for the destroyed Riverfront Tennis Center, with early plans showing the ground for the courts and clubhouse will be elevated by at least four feet to get above Florence’s flood level.
