The City of Conway plans to hold off on conducting a classification and compensation study – at least for the upcoming budget year.
Conway City Council members, leaders and human resources personnel discussed the idea during a workshop meeting Monday night. The city has not had a classification and compensation study completed by an outside contractor since 1997.
The proposed study would provide city staff with a salary survey, job analysis and updated job descriptions. Leaders believe its completion could help balance pay grades, aid in recruitment and improve employee retention.
However, some concern was voiced by council members when city staff addressed having preliminary talks with two qualified companies – one of which said it could provide information to leaders as early as April. While the city would get that information before it gives final approval to the upcoming budget, it could impact work completed during a budget retreat in March.
Following lengthy discussion, city leaders decided to look into the study for the 2019-2020 budget year. Its estimated cost is $30,000.
