The City of Conway is looking at a new playground that will have something for every child.

During a workshop on Monday night, City Council discussed finding a contractor to build an inclusive playground, similar to Savannah’s Playground in Myrtle Beach.

While a final spot hasn’t been selected, phase two of Sherwood Park is an early favorite.

The city decided to look in to an inclusive playground after parents of kids with special needs said Conway needed one.

“There will be equipment that’s good for someone who may be in the wheelchair or need assistance walking. We’ll also have some sensory equipment,” said Addison Jarrell, Conway Parks, Recreation and Tourism Director. “These types of playgrounds that are accessible for everybody are not easy to find and, a lot of times, you have to go a very long way to find them.”

The city set aside $200,000 for an inclusive playground and plans to apply for grants to help fund the project.
