CONWAY, SC (WBTW) – The City of Conway is looking for any memorabilia from the old Whittemore Elementary School.

Mayor Barbara Blain-Bellamy is asking the public to donate any pictures that showed what the building looked like when it was used as a school to help staff better understand the history.

Recently, the City purchased the old school building from Horry County Schools and has made plans to remodel the building into some sort of community center.

The City has held two different community input meetings, and in those meetings, members of the community have asked that the City work to preserve the history and help build an understanding of what it was like attending Whittemore Elementary.

Any memorabilia, especially dating back before 1970, would be helpful to display inside the building. Any pictures, old books, or sports memorabilia, could help to paint a picture of what the school previously looked like.
