CONWAY, SC (WBTW) – A Conway woman got the surprise of a lifetime when her son, an Airman who’s been away for five years, returned home Saturday afternoon.

The Conway Police Department helped stage the reunion between Airman Tywan Lawson and his mom at her home in Conway around 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

The entire reunion was captured on Facebook Live. Airman Lawson is nervous with excitement in the video as he and his accomplice, Conway Police Detective Tyres Knox Nesmith, wait until other officers who are also in on the surprise arrive at the home of Lawson’s mother.

When Detective Nesmith gets the planned signal from another Conway police officer, she drives around the corner to Airman Lawson’s family home.

“Are you ready?” Nesmith asks.

“I think so!” says the Airman, smiling anxiously.

“You know I’m going to say thank you for your service,” Nesmith says to Airman Lawson as they pull up to the home. “It’s my pleasure to bring all these tears of joy.”

As the Airman walks up the driveway, his sister runs and leaps in his arms, and his mom can be heard screaming his name with excitement in the background.

After hugs and tears, the family gathers with the Conway police officers involved in setting up the surprise and take a photo. Thank you for your service, Airman Lawson, and we hope to welcome you home again before another five years passes.
