MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Thousands of people showed up to the Hurricane Florence Relief Concert at the Myrtle Beach Pelicans Ballpark on Sunday.

Several country music artists like Carly Pearce, Chase Bryant, and Darius Rucker performed, and all of the proceeds went to local disaster relief.

“(Music) can bring a smile, it can bring tears, it can change somebody’s life drastically,” country music artist, Chase Bryant said.

He dropped everything when he got the call to play at the Hurricane Florence relief concert.

“To give back is a big purpose for me, and to give back to something with a great cause is always a no-brainer to me,” Bryant said.

Mayor of Myrtle Beach, Brenda Bethune, saw how other parts of Horry County were affected by the flooding caused by Hurricane Florence. She came up with the idea to organize the concert to help raise money for the survivors.

“I felt that it was important for me to reach out to those communities and for us to help, because we never know when it’s going to be us that needs help later on,” Bethune said.

Several of the artists who performed said the event was not about getting a paycheck, but about giving back to the community.

“We’ve played out here a multitude of times, so to be out here playing means a lot to us, and I’m sure it means a lot to these people, but we’re very, very, very fortunate to have gotten the call to come out and give back to such a great thing,” Bryant said.
