The Murrells Inlet community is mourning the loss of 30-year-old Jacob Elliott, who died in his condo at the Allston House complex early Tuesday morning when flames engulfed his unit.

The fire killed him, as well as his Rottweiler “Bubba.”  Elliott moved to the Inlet 10 years ago from Virginia, quickly plugging himself into the community.

“I”m just in disbelief basically, the horror of him getting stuck in the fire, hearing he made the 911 call is so upsetting, and then his dog.” said Phillip Bates, Owner of the Hot Fish Club in Murrells Inlet.

Elliott was a financial adviser with Edward Jones, his friends say he was known for random acts of kindness and remembering small details about people.

“One of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet, he grew up quickly too. He was very mature for his age.” said Bates.

Aside from Hot Fish Club, Elliott also made frequent trips to businesses along the inlet. Uncle Mikey’s was one of his favorite spots.

“He is a good person inside and out, and even better on the inside, I know you are resting in peace brother. You will be in my heart for the rest of my life. I love you Jake.” said Mike Zalloum, owner of Uncle Mikey’s Pizza.

As of right now the fire has been ruled accidental and not suspicious by the Garden City-Murrells Inlet Fire Department.

The Fire Marshal told News13 that it will be difficult to determine what caused it due to the ceiling collapsing.
