Community gets first look inside new Surfside Beach police annex

SURFSIDE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – People who live in Surfside Beach got a first look inside the new police annex on Thursday afternoon.

Police Chief Kenneth Hofmann said the department had outgrown the main office and now they have a separate space for the patrol division.

“The community was very supportive of us getting this extra space and that resulted in good support from council in budgeting,” said Hofmann. “The operations have smoothed out quite a bit since we were crammed in the old building since the mid-90’s.”

The building used to house the old rescue squad and took the facilities department about four months to transform. The remodeled space includes a briefing room, office space and a kitchen.
