MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW)- The Market Common area could be seeing some traffic changes. Myrtle Beach’s city engineer rolled out a plan to make drivers slow down.

The city engineer said they’re getting the most calls for concern in the Market Common area, and  proposed putting in raised crosswalks. Which is essentially a speed hump at a crosswalk location.

It would raise the road to the same height as the side walk at a cross walk. City officials said it forces people to slow down.

They’re proposing putting raised intersections at Pampas Drive intersections, and Yorkshire intersections.

“It brings your attention by signage, by pavement markings that the road is raised ahead and you can visually see better the pedestrian or cyclist that’s cross the road,” said city engineer Ryan Harvey.

There is no timeline of when construction would start or how much the project will start.
