MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – The city of myrtle beach will conduct a study on the grand strand humane society. This comes after three board members turned in their resignations, and asked the city to step in.

The city will hire a consultant to conduct a two month study into the grand strand human society’s operations. They’ll look into several factors including their code of ethics, job description, daily operations and facility conditions. Issues have ranged from decisions being made without the board’s full knowledge and possible euthanasia of puppies.

“Changes at the humane society as of late, there’s been some disagreements in term of management styles and practices. They seem to be a little more even keel,” said city spokesperson, Mark Kruea.

The grand strand human society oversees a 1.2 million dollar budget and 230 thousand dollars of that is tax payer money.  Board members have asked for help from city council and they think this study will do just that.

“A monumental task to take care of unwanted, uncared for pets so this gives them a little guidance and fresh perspective,” said Kruea.

The study will cost the city $24,000. City Council also asked for an audit from the humane society.
