The City of Conway is preparing for river flooding and impassable roads in the coming days, as rain from Florence continues to fall in Horry County.
Taylor Newell, spokeswoman for the city, says teams are beginning to consider setting up barricades in anticipation of multiple road closures. Newell said public works teams were dispatched across the city Saturday morning to remove downed trees and clear roadways.
The city has already blocked off Long Avenue at Greer Swamp due to flooding and continues to monitor roadways around the Crabtree Canal. Newell says the city is particularly concerned about water in the canal nearing US-501.
Other specific areas being monitored include El Bethel Road, Mill Pond Road, Oak Street, Elm Street, Highway 905, portions of US-501 and Sherwood Drive.
As of Saturday night, the City of Conway remains operating at OPCON 1.
