City of Conway chooses its next police chief

CONWAY, SC (WBTW) – A man already working for the Conway Police Department will become the city’s next police chief, city spokesperson Taylor Newell confirmed to News13.

The city announced Dale Long’s promotion at Monday night’s council meeting.

Long has been a detective sergeant. He started at the police department in 2010. He’s also served as an investigator with the 15th Circuit Solicitor’s Office, Newell said.

“This is my home, and because of all the investment I’ve made in this community, this is the greatest opportunity I have ever had to serve,” said Long.

Long graduated from Conway High School and continued his education at Coastal Carolina University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. Long also graduated from Horry Georgetown Technical College with an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice.

“I am plugged into the community. I have a strong desire to see our department plugged into the community, and I plan to build those community relationships even better than they are now,” said Long.

According to the job posting, the entry-level pay for the position is $74,395.

The previous police chief, Reggie Gosnell, retired at the end of 2017. He worked for the department for 12 years.
