A 4-year-old girl drowned in Galivants Ferry on Wednesday.
Horry County Deputy Coroner Michelle McSpadden says Kendall Stimatze-Marez drowned in a residential pool on Wednesday evening. Her family recently moved to the area from Kansas. The Horry County Police Department is investigating.
A report from the Horry County Police Department says officers were called to a residence on Happy Lane in Galivants Ferry around 10 p.m. on Wednesday for a missing child. When officers arrived on scene, they observed people looking for the child. The report says the child’s uncle ran from behind the house and said the child had been found in the pool.
Officers went to the pool, where they found someone doing CPR, according to the report. The child was later taken by Horry County Fire and EMS to a hospital in Conway.
The report also says about 15 minutes before the original 911 call came in, the child’s aunt went to tell the child good-bye. At this time, the mother began to look for the child and noticed she was missing.
A witness told police there were people sitting around the pool and they never saw the child get into the pool, the report also says. The child’s uncle and another person entered the pool to look for the child and located her in an area where the water was about five feet deep.
The report also says no foul play is suspected in the child’s death.
