Child dies after drowning incident at Myrtle Beach resort, woman charged

Myrtle Beach police and firefighters responded to a possible drowning call involving a juvenile, Friday night at an area resort, according to Cpl. Thomas Vest with the Myrtle Beach Police Department. 

According to Christopher Dontell with the Horry County Coroner’s office, that child died at the hospital. The child was five years old. 

Cpl. Vest tells us the call came in Friday evening at the Ocean Reef Resort at 7100 Ocean Boulevard. 

Lortoria Shantel Pittman of Elm City, North Carolina has been charged with Unlawful Neglect of a Child in connection to the incident. She was released Saturday morning after a judge issued her a $7,500 personal recognizance bond.
