Change would increase Myrtle Beach food truck permits from 6 to 20

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – The city of Myrtle Beach could be getting more food trucks.

City council on Tuesday approved the first reading of a change to the food truck ordinance. The change would increase the number of food truck permits allowed from six to 20.

They also would decrease the distance a food truck can be from existing restaurants. The decrease would change the distance from 500 feet to 300 feet.

The city added a definition for food carts and expanded zoning districts. Carol Coleman, director of planning said they “expanded it to include light manufacturing, warehouse manufacturing, entertainment, and even medical professional.”

The ordinance still needs to pass a second reading.
