A Coastal Carolina University professor recently received a Fulbright Award to teach in Poland.
A press release says William Hills, a professor of psychology in the university’s College of Science, received a Fulbright Award to teach gerontology at the Medical University of Lublin for the 2018-19 school year.
Hill will study how health and social services are provided for older adults in Poland and help establish an exchange of best practices information between the United States and Poland, according to the release.
“When considering global aging, it’s important for gerontologists of various countries to see commonalities of aging processes rather than distinctions,” Hills says. “This focus allows us to look beyond national boundaries, find our shared interests, and learn from one another.”
Hills previously received a Fulbright Award in 2013 to teach at the Russian State Social University in Moscow, Russia. He also participated in a Fulbright-Hayes group study project to Poland in 2003.
CCU has 19 Fulbright scholars among its current faculty and staff, the release also says. Over the last seven years, nine professors at the university have received awards to work in countries around the world such as Russia, Austria, Turkey, the Czech Republic, Madagascar, Norway, and the United Kingdom.
“I’m proud to represent Coastal Carolina University in these efforts,” Hills also says.
Darla Domke-Damonte, the university’s Associate Provost for Global Initiatives, says Hills’ “previous Fulbright efforts have resulted in collaborative research and publishing opportunities for colleagues in the USA and abroad, and we are excited to see what connections this Fulbright Award will bring for Coastal.”
Hills is one of about 1,100 professors and faculty from the United States who will travel abroad through the Fulbright program in 2018-2019, according to the release. The Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program is operated by the Council for International Exchange of Scholars, a division of the Institute of International Education.
