Horry County Schools gave some of its students an opportunity to explore careers in the medical field Friday.
The district hosted its first Health Science Career Fair at Conway High School. Hospitals from across the Grand Strand and Pee Dee participated.
“There’s a lot of interest in things like, ‘I want to be a pediatrician. I want to be a nurse.’ People don’t think about some of the very important positions that we have that may not be as popular, because they’re not as well known,” Conway High School health science teacher Lucia Watson said.
Health professionals provided around 500 students with information on careers in the medical industry and healthcare. Fields featured included orthopedics, family medicine, radiology and emergency services.
“This gives them the opportunity to say, ‘Oh, that’s really neat! I didn’t know I could do something like that,” Watson added.
