GEORGETOWN, SC (WBTW)- Businesses along Front Street have sand bags at their doors as they brace for flooding that’s expected to be worse than Hurricane Matthew.
One restaurant, Graham’s Landing has only been open 5 weeks, and they’re getting everything out before flood waters make it’s way in. Cresting is expected to happen in Georgetown Wednesday night, and officials say they could see 10 feet of water. Which is concerning for the low lying area of Front Street which saw water in streets Tuesday, just due to hide tide.
“Stressful. we spent a bunch of money opening up and now we’re not getting to sell anything we’re having to close for two of the five weeks we’ve been open. Being that there’s already water on Front Street. It’s starting to come to life now,” said Graham Poummer, owner of Graham’s Landing.
Geogetown County officials are doing one last push to get people to evacuate. It’s not mandatory, but the county is urging 8,000 people in flood-prone areas to leave.
