MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – A man’s body was discovered Monday morning washed ashore at the Myrtle Beach State Park, officials confirm.

Lt. Jonathan Evans with Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue says it’s unclear how the person died or how long the body was in the water before being discovered. Horry County officials were notified, Lt. Evans adds.

Captain John Harrelson with Horry County police says the victim is an adult male and the body was found in the surf on the beach just after 10 a.m. Monday morning.

Horry County Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard identified the victim as 71-year-old Robert Thomas Kiddy, of Springfield, VA. The coroner’s office says Kiddy was a regular visitor to Myrtle Beach.

While the investigation into Kiddy’s death continues, there is no foul play suspected at this time, says Capt. Harrelson.

An autopsy was complete, but the coroner’s office says there is no definite cause of death at this time. Willard says complete results may take up to 12 weeks before a cause of death is determined.
