PAWLEYS ISLAND, SC (WBTW) – A duck hunter was rescued Monday evening on the Waccamaw River after his boat capsized in very cold weather.
Crews began searching from the Hagley Landing boat launch at around 6:30 p.m. Midway Fire Rescue said the duck hunter was found by a friend just before 8 p.m.

A U.S. Coast Guardsman on the scene told News 13 the duck hunter had just two percent battery left on his cell phone when he called his friends for help. The duck hunter was taken upstream to the Sandy Island boat landing, where he was treated by emergency crews.
Midway Fire Rescue used three rescue boats to search for the duck hunter. A U.S. Coast Guard spokesperson says guardsmen from the Georgetown station responded, along with a helicopter from Air Station Savannah.
The U.S. Coast Guard says the duck hunter’s dog was also rescued and is ok.
The state department of natural resources arrived at the Sandy Island boat landing at around 9 p.m. to investigate.
