HORRY COUNTY, SC (WBTW) – Some families at the Tanger Outlets off of Highway 17 say the good deals aren’t the only reason they go to the stores on Black Friday. Despite the long lines and big crowds, a lot of people head to the shops as a way to spend quality time with family.
“This is the first time we’ve actually all had the chance to all go (Black Friday Shopping) together, due to work or other reasons, but this is the first chance we’ve had for all five of us to go,” Gale Marlowe, a shopper at the Tanger Outlets said.
Marlowe was part of a mother/daughter group that even made matching Black Friday t-shirts for the occasion.
She says the shopping day wasn’t stressful, and they’ll return to the stores again on Saturday.
“Even if you had a long line, everyone’s been patient and friendly,” Marlowe said. “It’s been so much fun. It’s been great being together.”
A few stores down, Mary Beth Dailey was with her grandchildren, who she says she takes shopping most years on Black Friday.
“It’s time to start getting into the Christmas spirit,” Dailey said.
While the deals are nice, Dailey says the day is a good time to spend with her loved ones, even if it means long lines and crowds.
“It’s still fun, and you’re still together as a family,” Dailey said. “The best part of being a grandmother is being with your family.”
The stores at the Tanger Outlets off of Highway 17 opened up Thanksgiving day at 6 p.m. and will close Black Friday at 10 p.m.
