MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Bike Fest visitors were in good spirits Saturday night after Myrtle Beach police decided not to enforce the 23-mile traffic loop for the second night in a row this year.
Some visitors said traffic was moving more steadily without the loop.
“I know in previous years it’s slowed everything up. It’s like everything was jammed up, so everybody was frustrated, so it’s less frustration this year,” Quentin Colbert, who has attended Bike Fest for the past six years said.
“The traffic is totally different than what it was four or five years ago. It used to be way packing up in here,” Ricardo Brown, visiting from Charleston said.
Myrtle Beach police started restricting Ocean Boulevard traffic to one lane on Friday, so first responders could use the other lane for emergencies.
Even though the 23-mile traffic loop was not enforced Saturday night, some tourists said they understood its purpose.
“They got to make it because they have tourists here. They’ve got to make sure everyone’s safe and everyone can get to where they’re going, so if it makes sense, I’m with (the traffic loop),” Rennie Music, visiting from Florida said.
Despite the different opinions about the loop, most bikers had a similar goal for the weekend.
“I don’t think anyone’s here trying to make trouble. They just want to come here, have fun and go home,” Laquan Davis, a visitor attending Bike Fest said.
