As a way to help get kids and families outdoors this summer, Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s Sporting Goods are donating 50,000 rods and reels to nonprofit organizations that help kids from all backgrounds connect to nature.
The donation is a part of a nationwide movement called “Gone Fishing,” which aims to get as many people as possible outside to enjoy nature.
The local groups that will benefit from these donations are Horry County Parks and Recreation, Playcard Environmental Education Center, and the Myrtle Beach State Park. Troy Crider, the Park Manager for the Myrtle Beach State Park, says “we use these loaner rods to do programs in the park including Take a Kid Fishing Day, which comes up this September on the 29th.”
Chris Baker, the General Manager of Bass Pro Shops also says “the local groups we deal with today obviously can help some of the kids that may not be as fortunate.”
