Applications are now open for the first Myrtle Beach Fire Department Citizens Fire Academy.
Lt. Jonathan Evans, with MBFD, says in a press release that applications are open until February 1 at 5 p.m.
Applicants must be City of Myrtle Beach or Horry County residents, with first applications going towards City of Myrtle Beach residents, according to Evans. The 10-week program will start on February 27 and run until May 8, with classes starting at 6 p.m. and lasting about 2 hours.
“Each class will have a different topic including vehicle extrication, emergency vehicle driver training, and a live fire simulation where candidates will get to experience what it’s like to be inside of a fire,” Evans said in the release. “Candidates will also be able to take part in ride a longs in fire vehicles for calls, and during beach patrols during the course of the program.”
