90-year-old from Myrtle Beach celebrates birthday on the job

Happy Birthday Houston Blancett. On Friday, he’s turing 90-years-alive, and he’s celebrating while still working.

“I enjoy working,” said Blancett, “I enjoy working with the crew here.”

It’s tough to call Blancett young, but it’s even tougher to call him old.

“Someone asked me how does it feel to be 89 years old,”said Blancett, “and I said I don’t know, I’ve never been 89 before.”

As for 90?

“Well I don’t feel any different than I did yesterday,” said Blancett.

Years before he was ever serving chicken sandwiches, Houston served the lord.

“I’m a retired pastor,” said Blancett. “I pastored church, I started preaching in 1954, and retired in 1995.”

After retiring he did a few different jobs, but Blancett just enjoys working, and if working’s what he enjoys, isn’t that what we’re supposed to do in our golden years? Enjoy them?

“I said sometimes those golden years turn into brass, and I said brass don’t bring near as much on the stock market as gold does,” said Blancett.

Houston’s worth more than gold. If you didn’t make it to his birthday this year, don’t worry, you have at least five more years to see him. While he will eventually retire, it’s not going to be for awhile.

“I’m probably going to have my 95th birthday party here too,” said Blancett.

Blancett works at the Chick-Fil-A on Highway 544 in Surfside Beach.
