A 7-year-old child is dead after a crash Saturday morning in Horry County.
The Horry County Coroner’s office identified the child as Alaina Smith of Orangeburg, She died during surgery at the hospital.
According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the accident happened around 10:30 a.m. Saturday. A person driving a 2009 Ford was merging onto SC 22 west bound from SC 31. That driver went over the center line into the east bound lanes and struck a 2010 Mercury.
Troopers say smith was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. The driver of the ford as well as four people from the Mercury were taken to the hospital.
Highway Patrol is still investigating this crash.
