Six traffic counters have been installed in the downtown Myrtle Beach area.
Brian Schmitt, the Executive Assistant for the Myrtle Beach Downtown Redevelopment Corporation, says installation of the traffic counters has been completed along Ocean Boulevard and the Boardwalk.
According to Schmitt, these traffic counters give counts on vehicle, bike, and pedestrian traffic in the area and can distinguish delivery size trucks from passenger vehicles. The areas being studied are the 14th Avenue North area, 8th Avenue North area, and the 3rd Avenue South area.
“In today’s world, current and future stakeholders are making data-driven decisions,” Schmitt says. “Traffic data is one key point that everyone is interested in. This is another tool in the toolbox for potential investors and for current business owners.”
A post on the MBDRC’s Facebook page says the Motionloft sensors analyze “how people and vehicles move, empowering cities and businesses to make confident decisions based on vehicle and pedestrian traffic.”
