5 remain in Myrtle Beach hospital after deck collapse in Ocean Isle

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) –  Grand Strand Medical Center is treating 12 people who were injured when a deck collapsed in Ocean Isle Beach, NC.

Of the 12 patients treated at Grand Strand Medical Center, five patients were treated in the trauma center and are in good to fair condition, the hospital reported on Wednesday. The remaining were treated and released from the Emergency Department.

Ocean Isle Beach Mayor Debbie Sloane Smith said the incident occurred on Memorial Day. Smith says she was told a group of people had gathered on a set of stairs for a photo when the structure gave way.

Smith says several people were taken to a hospital, including some who were air-lifted.
