MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Dozens of restaurants were cooking up their specialties at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center at the 35th annual Taste of the Town, hosted by St. Andrew Catholic School. 

The event started in the school’s cafeteria and has grown into the city’s largest food festival in the fall.

This year, Taste of the Town not only raised money for the school, but also for victims of Hurricane Florence.

“We need to rebuild this community and work together to move forward,” said Debbie Wilfong, who’s the principal of St. Andrew Catholic School. “So some of our proceeds this evening will be going towards Catholic Charities and to Help 4 Kids.”

Mr. Fish won the judges award for “best entree” for its banh mi mahi tacos. Sea Captain’s House won second place in the “best entree” category for its braised pork belly. Cafe Amalfi won third place in the “best entree” category for its braised ox tail.

In the “best dessert” judges competition, Sea Captain’s House took home first place for its chocolate sponge cake. Second place in the “best dessert” competition went to Mr. Fish for its coconut cream pie. Cafe Amalfi finished in third for its lemon meringue shooters.

In the judges “best booth” design competition, Mr. Fish won the large booth category, followed by Sea Captain’s House in second place and Kona Ice in third. Carolina Ale House won the small booth category, Pulaski Deli took home second place, and Bar-B-Que House finished third.

The people’s choice awards went to 21 Main for “best entree” and Strong Waters for “best dessert.” In the kids’ choice categories, AJ’s Pizza won for “best entree” and The Melting Pot won for “best dessert.”
