MURRELLS INLET, SC (WBTW) – Thousands came out to the 23rd Annual Blessing of the Inlet on Saturday.
The festival, which is held on the first Saturday in May each year, was a day for entertainment, food, worship, and fundraising for non-profits like the Low Country Veterans Group.
The Low County Veterans Group was highlighted as the 23rd Annual Blessing of the Inlet’s ceremony charity.
The commander of the group, Franklin E. Rutledge, says they advocate for veterans and their needs, especially when it comes to vets who are homeless.
“A lot of people have closed their ears and eyes to homeless veterans, but it’s scattered throughout the state of South Carolina,” Rutledge said.
The Blessing of the Inlet festival had dozens of vendors, food, and entertainers, but its main focus was on fellowship and raising money for groups that help take care of the community.
“We have a huge impact on the community where we do outreaches, where we do food pantry, where we do riding assistance, where we don’t wait for the veterans to come to us, we meet them where they’re at and supply them with their needs,” Rutledge said.
