MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – The world’s largest golf tournament teed off in the city Monday at the 35th PlayGolfMyrtleBeach.com World Amateur Handicap Championship.
After hitting the links in the morning, hundreds of golfers gathered at the city’s convention center in the evening for what’s called “the world’s largest 19th hole.” It’s an expo with golf equipment for sale, along with a hole-in-one contest, long distance putting challenge and other interactive vendors.
The Myrtle Beach World Am is held at 55 golf courses across the Grand Strand.
“People come here and make life-long friendships,” said tournament spokesperson Chris King. “They come here every year and renew them. We’ve even had couples meet and get married here at the tournament. It’s just a wonderful event that brings people together in a celebration of the game of golf.”
More than 3,100 golfers from 26 countries are signed up for the Myrtle Beach World Am.
The tournament will continue through Friday.
