CONWAY, SC (WBTW) – The family of a two-year-old born with a spinal injury preventing him from walking on his own is hoping to raise enough money for a service dog to give their son the gift of independence.
Fozzy Ambrose’s injury to his spine causes a loss of feeling in his legs and slower than average development.
Despite this, Fozzy’s mother Ashli Ambrose, says her son is her inspiration.
“His little heart is just so content even though he struggles with things you and I can do so easily,“ Ambrose said.
Fozzy has to use a wheelchair to get around.
“For me as a mom, the hardest part sometimes is seeing the struggle and wishing that you could take it away, or you would give up something that you have to take it away when you know that’s not possible,“ Ambrose said.
After Fozzy had spinal surgery in 2018, in addition to regular physical therapy sessions, Ambrose says Fozzy has made huge strides, but having a service dog would help him become even more capable.
“The dog can help him in his wheelchair. We can train the dog to take on and off his clothes,“ Ambrose said.
Ambrose recently began fundraising for a service dog through 4 Paws for Ability, a non-profit that works to train service dogs for children.
Ambrose is preparing for one of Fozzy’s biggest fundraisers yet with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans at their baseball game on April 5.
