Firefighters rush to rescue three swimmers in distress at Pawley’s Island Saturday evening.
According to a tweet from the Georgetown County Twitter page, Midway Fire Rescue officers are responding to a call about three swimmers in distress.
Midway Fire Rescue Chief Doug Eggiman tells us firefighters were called to 766 Springs Ave, in Pawleys Island about 3 male swimmers in distress.
Chief Eggiman says a Pawleys Island Police Officer was able to rescue two of those swimmers. Units from Midway Fire Rescue took them to the hospital for treatment, along with the rescuing officer. Crews are still searching for the third swimmer who went under the water.
Boats from the SC Department of Natural Resources, Pawleys Island Police Department, Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Coast Guard are assisting in the search. A helicopter from the Coast Guard is also on the way to assist.
