MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – A Myrtle Beach High School student will be taking her singing talent to a national stage in New York this week.

Isabella Irizarry is 14 years old and will be performing at Showtime at the Apollo on Wednesday. She’s been singing since she was two years old, and some of her music inspirations include Jennifer Hudson and Christina Aguilera. Irizarry performed in numerous stage plays and talent shows throughout her young life. Irizarry said her dad has always been a big support system for her, and they were both excited when she got the news. “Me and my dad started jumping up and down!” said Irizarry. “It was like the best news I could ever hear.”

Her chance on the Apollo came after she opened a show for America’s Got Talent contestant, Christian Guardino. “His manager happened to be the producer at the Apollo Theater, and when he heard me sing, he was like ‘you’re definitely on the show,'”said Irizarry.

Irizarry said she wants other young people to continue following their dreams no matter what problems they face in life. “I was bullied when I was younger, but I never let that stop me from pursuing my dreams,” said Irizarry. She wants to continue pursuing a career in singing and acting. Irizarry performs at Showtime at the Apollo on Wednesday for the upcoming season.
