Ten evacuation shelters are open in Horry County ahead of possible flooding.
A press release from Horry County says the American Red Cross has opened six evacuation shelters “in preparation for potential flooding and necessary evacuations.”
The shelters that are open include:
- Loris Elementary School
- Horry-Georgetown Technical College- Grand Strand campus
- Horry-Georgetown Technical College- Conway Campus
- City of Conway Parks and Recreation
- Whittemore Park Middle School
- Ocean Drive Elementary School
- North Myrtle Beach High School
- Conway High School
- Palmetto Bay Elementary School
- Aynor Middle School
When going to a shelter, people will need to take their own supplies such as batteries, bedding, identification, toiletries, and clothing, the release says. Shelters do not accept guns, alcohol, or animals.
The Horry-Georgetown Tech Conway campus is open to those with special needs. Those needing space there should contact the triage line at 1 800 578 2031.
Evacuees with animals can contact the Horry County Animal Care Center at 843-915-5930, according to the release. The HCACC is assisting animals that need to be cared for during evacuations and people are asked not to leave animals at home when evacuating.
