Last month, Michele Messer, age 35, spent 4 days in a hospital after police say her ex-boyfriend Christopher Campbell attacked her outside a bar in Murrells Inlet.

Messer, who has 2 young children, says ran into Campbell, her ex-boyfriend, at the bar when she attended a friend’s birthday party.
The two were also business partners and she says when they left to speak in his car at 2 p.m. about upcoming projects she thought nothing of it.

She says that changed the minute Campbell locked her in a van.
“I just remember this is it; I knew it right at that moment that he was going to kill me,” said Messer.
At the time of the February attack, Campbell was out of jail on $75,000 bond for a 2013 murder charge. Messer says she was aware of the charge however, several people stood by Campbell and it was difficult not to believe their stories.
At first Campbell, age 39, was only charged with Criminal Domestic Violence of a High and Aggravated Nature.
However, after Messer and many others complained about the lack of any other charges, he was later charged with: attempted murder, resisting arrest, oppose, resist, or assault of a law enforcement officer serving process, forgery less than $10,000, financial transaction card theft, as well as the original charge of criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature.
Campbell remains in custody at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center.
