MYRTLE BEACH, SC – Grand Strand Health will sponsor seminars about weight loss surgery, skin cancer prevention and stroke recognition in May. A Look Good Feel Better® Workshop and a free self-defense class will also be offered. All will be held at HealthFinders inside Coastal Grand Mall near Dillard’s.
Bariatric Surgeon Michael Michel, MD, with Coastal Carolina Bariatric & Surgical Center, will discuss weight loss surgery on Tuesday, May 9 from 6 – 7 pm. He will present on who would qualify as a candidate, what to expect, the procedure and risk factors for the surgery.
On Tuesday, May 16 from 6 – 7 pm, Oncologist Emily Touloukian, DO, with Coastal Cancer Center, will present on recognition and prevention of skin cancer. Dr. Touloukian will discuss the signs, symptoms, prevention and treatments of skin cancer.
Would you recognize a stroke if you saw one happen? Neurologist Robert Coni, DO, with Grand Strand Spine & Neuro Care, will host a seminar titled Are you Stroke Smart? on Thursday, May 18 from 6 – 7 pm. Dr. Coni will discuss how to recognize a stroke along with risk factors, prevention and treatment options
On Monday, May 22 from 5:45 – 7:45 pm, a Look Good Feel Better® Workshop will be held. Look Good Feel Better® is a free program from the American Cancer Society designed for women dealing with hair loss and skin changes from chemotherapy and radiation. Participants will learn specific techniques to help make the most of your appearance while undergoing treatment. You will also take home a makeup package. This workshop is designed for women who are currently being treated for cancer. Registration required: 1.800.227.2345.
A certified self-defense instructor will discuss and demonstrate ways to avoid attackers on Tuesday, May 23 from 6 – 7 pm. You will learn how to react to an attack and be aware of your surroundings.
