Grand Strand Health is pleased to announce Andrew Schwartz, MD, MS, CPE, FACS, FCCP, has been named Chief Medical Officer.

Dr. Schwartz previously worked at Southeastern Health, a 336-bed hospital in Lumberton, NC, where he served as Vice President of Medical Affairs and Chief Medical Officer.  Prior to Southeastern Health, Dr. Schwartz worked for 18 years at Shawnee Mission Medical Center in Merriam, KS, serving as a Cardiothoracic Surgeon and Director of Cardiothoracic Surgery.

“We are excited for Dr. Schwartz to join our team.  He has an extensive background in healthcare and a very impressive career as a cardiac surgeon,” said Mark Sims, Grand Strand Health CEO. 

Dr. Schwartz attended medical school at Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, DC.  He completed his internship and residency in general surgery at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, NY, where he served as Chief Resident.  His cardiothoracic surgery residency was completed at University of Miami-Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, FL, where he also served as Chief Resident.  Dr. Schwartz is a fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians and the American College of Surgeons.
