MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – The Matthew Bellamy Project is hosting a support event and fundraiser on Thursday, January 28. All people in the community are invited to attend the event, enjoy dinner and support the organization that was founded after the accidental shooting death of 11-year-old Matthew Bellamy.
His mother and father founded the Matthew Bellamy Project to give away free gun locks in an effort to improve gun safety. Since 2010, the organization has expanded to offer gun safety classes for kids at school and at the project office in Little River. Another class also teaches gun handling skills for women. That class is called Ladies and Lead.
In an effort to connect with the community and receive support, the project is hosting a dinner on Thursday between 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at the North Myrtle Beach First Baptist Church Family Life Center. The $8 dinner includes chicken bog, green beans, bread and tea. Curbside take-away is available for people who can not spend more time at the event. In addition to dinner, there will be a silent auction, chorus performances, a bake sale, a photo booth, glitter tattoos and time for other social activities.
