The Blue Star Mothers of Coastal Carolina originated in 2008, and the group has since crown from a handful of members to almost 100. It began with just mothers whose son or daughter was serving in the military overseas, but now the group welcomes other family members, as well.

The group meets once a month. The members discuss service projects and provide emotional support for each other.

One project the group supports all year is the Hero Box project. The Mothers will collect simple items that those serving overseas may not have access to, such as hygiene items, food, and clothing. The Mothers welcome anyone to submit the information of someone they know serving currently that may benefit from the Hero Box.
